No mancunian Christmas would be complete without a visit to our world famous markets. Every year the streets are transformed into a Christmas wonderland. Hundreds of wooden chalets line our streets, each offering beautiful handmade goods or delicacies from around the world.
During the day the market is beautiful and tempting with its array of gorgeous goods, at night however it’s a sight to behold with its spectacular lights and fun atmosphere. The market stretches from Market Street, down through St Anne’s Square and up to Albert Square, where you’ll be greeted by a giant Santa Claus on top of the town hall.
This weekend on the back of the Winter Wonderland Ball I was in the most ‘christmassy’ mood ever, so myself and my Mum paid the market a visit on its opening weekend. To say it was packed was an understatement! It seemed like a million people had descended on town all desperate for a mulled wine and bratwurst!
There was so much on offer it was hard to resist the tantalising smells of the gorgeous garlic mushrooms, nutella crepes, sugared almonds and Lancashire hotpots, but to name a few. Resist I did though, well only because I was still stuffed from that morning’s breakfast at the hotel. I did treat myself to a Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte though, I mean I wait all year for those bad boys! Anyhow, fancy a little look at this years market?
Are you going to pay the markets a visit?
PEACE & LOVE
