Glossybox Review: Sept 2014

ugb2 ugb3

After the poor quality of the last few boxes I’ve been expecting, or rather hoping for great things from this months box. I’ve been so disappointed by the last few boxes that I’ve considered cancelling on numerous occasions. If it hadn’t been for the fact that I have enough glossy dots for three free boxes I would be done with Glossy! I literally just seem to moan on every review about the lacklustre products, tiny perfume samples and ridiculous amounts of nail products…meh!

Well you’ll be pleased to know that this months is not a total bust…ta…dah! OK it’s not the best but, a definite improvement on the last few. First up is the London skyline inspired Karen Millen box. I love it, not only is it beautiful to look at, I love me a London skyline sketch ya naaaaa, as you can see from my fave dinner tray in most of these pics. Anyway I digress, not only is it beautiful but, it’s also the perfect nod to London Fashion Week which kicked off last Friday!

There’s a good mix of high-end and budget brands in the box, and although there’s a nail product in there I might, just might be able to forgive them for it. Who knew?! Anyway bebes on with the review…

ModelCo MORE BROWS Fibre Gel – Brows are currently big business. Since Benefit’s Gimme Brow hit the market to massive applause there’s been an onslaught of dupes. Case and point ModelCo MORE BROWS.  Brush the little spooley over your brows in upwards strokes to achieve fuller, thicker brows that hold their shape. I’ll be doing a brow series soon so look out for a review.

L’Oréal Professional Mythic Masque – This is a good-sized sample of an OK product. Admittedly I’m not a fan of L’Oréal and their products. Plus any hair product has to measure up to, if not exceed the results of my cult classics Morocanoil and Bed Head Urban Antidotes.  This masque is designed to intensely nourish the hair and leave it glossy looking. Although a nice product unfortunately this didn’t quite measure up to my cult faves, plus it smelt kinda like a box-dye…hmmmmm. Not really for me guys, sorry!

SkinPep Enzyme and Acid Peel/Peeling Gel/Dark Circle Eraser – Now I am usually averse to receiving little samples like these but, I don’t actually mind these little sachets. Yes they are ridiculously over priced, self-professed ‘wonder products’ that most of us can’t afford however, I am eager to try them. The Dark Circle Eraser is top of my list, if I were student at Hogwarts and had a wand to wave, I would most definitely wave it in the direction of my unsightly dark circles. They are something I have battled with for years. I have tried almost every product on the market and am firmly of the opinion that, if you have circles due to pigmentation the only answer is a good concealer. There’s no way in hell that I would pay £44.99 without trying it first, so I’ll be putting it to the test and reporting back soon.

Nails Inc Westminster Bridge Matt – Guys if you follow my blog you’ll know how I feel about the repeated nail products that are shoved in just about every Glossybox lately. I am siiiiiiiiiiiick of them! However…this one I can forgive, instead of bottles of colours I’d never wear they have finally included an original and inspiring product. Paint your nails with your chosen shade and then finish with this top coat to see your glossy polish turn matt, Love.IT!

ORIGINS Anti-Aging Power Serum – First things first, I’m soooooo fancy… haha sorry I just got Iggy Izalea stuck in my head. I’m digressing again, so first things first, if you are in your 20’s you probably don’t even need to consider this so move it along bebes. However for those of us in our 30s and beyond we might be looking for a little extra help in the old wrinkle department. So here is a product that claims to give us the miracle results of BOTOX. Here’s what they say…

51% visible reduction in lines and wrinkles in just 4 weeks
√ 0% irritation
In just 4 weeks nature’s next generation power plant noticeably reduces wrinkle length & depth. Without the irritation. Visibly helps improve the vertical fret lines between your eyes and the stubborn furrows across your forehead. Youthful “bounce” is revived. Skin is clinically firmer, smoother and more lifted-looking. And with continued use, results improve. What will nature think of next.

Ooooo clever Glossybox, send me 2 weeks worth of a product that needs 4 weeks to work, hmmmmm. Come on, how will I know if it works at all without buying it! Anyway, I’ll be giving it a go and letting you know how I get on!

So that’s my round-up, all pretty nice products that are inspiring and reminiscent of Glossybox from the early years. Not only that but they also included a £25 off voucher for Karen Millen stores, there’s only one catch, you have to spend £150, yeah, don’t think so!

What about you guys what did you get? Did you love or hate this months box? Are you looking forward to next months colour box?

  1. The box is so gorgeous. Haha, I love those ‘£30 OFF!!’ massive campaigns they do and you read the small print and that’s after spending £2938. I’m obviously totally into brows like everyone else and their dog at the moment so I’ll be keeping my eye out for that number. X X
