Finally the most famous red carpet in all of the land has been rolled out, the movie stars have sashayed down it, and we can feast our eyes on their choices of attire. I don’t know about you but I’ve been waiting eagerly to see what everyone will wear, especially the nominees...eek…can you tell I’m excited? So lets get into it!
First came Amy Adams in her floor length navy Gucci, which was kind of meh. I mean for a best actress nominee I was expecting a little more. Apparently she had said that she wanted to dress for herself. OK I can get down with that buuuut, you’re a best actress nominee at the Oscars Amy, what gives? Did you know you weren’t going to win?!
Saving the best actress category was Cate Blanchett in that nude embellished Giorgio Armani gown. Now that is how to dress like a movie star and an Oscar winner to boot. As if the hair, makeup and outfit choice wasn’t amazing enough, she dared to wear those giant Chopard opal earrings. What a risk pairing those massive earrings with the embellishment of the dress. How right she was though, I would give her an Oscar just for looking so fabulous.
Next up is the amazing JLaw herself. Oh I love her, and the fact that she fell for the second time at the Oscars just makes her all the more fabulous…real girl problems right there! I must admit after the disaster that was her Globes attire I was worried she may not wow us. I shouldn’t have ever doubted her though, because that orange-y/red Dior gown was beautiful, and she accessorised it perfectly with that Neil Lane diamond necklace worth a reported 2mill!
Of course we have to take a moment to talk about the perfection that is Lupita Nyong’o in that custom made Prada gown and diamond encrusted headband. She has not set a foot wrong this red carpet season, and has been the best dressed at most of the ceremonies. She has now rounded all that perfection up in one perfect gown that kind of reminded me of a modern day Cinderella. Well if Cinderella slashed the neckline of her gown, gave herself a semi mowhawk and threw away the gloves and replaced them with vintage Fred Leighton rings and snake bracelets. I meann…a…maz…iiiiiiiinnnnng…and breath!
Also looking absolutely incredible was Angelina Jolie in one of my fave ever designers Elie Saab, Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen and can we just stop for a moment and pay homage to Charlize Theron in that incredible black Dior…oh my!!
Looking lovely but not wowing us was; Julia Roberts in Givenchy, Glenn Close in Zacc Posen, Portia De Rossi in Naeem Khan, Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti, Calista Flockhart in Andrew Gn and Kristen Bell in Roberto Cavalli.
Unfortunately there will always be a few ladies that fail to impress and last night was no different. As well as Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Penelope Cruz and Emma Watson’s choices were all a little underwhelming!
The men however were definitely giving the ladies a run for their money last night. Looking slick in their tuxedos were; Brad Pitt, Leonardo Dicaprio and my personal favourite Michael B. Jordan in a daring Givenchy tux/plated shoe combo. Not to be upstaged though were Jared Leto and Matthew Mcconaughey in their off white tuxedos.
The biggest surprise of the night, for me anyway was Kate Hudson totally stealing the show in that incredible ivory Versace. Who could have anticipated that an actress that wasn’t even nominated and showed up with her Mum to present an award would out do everyone else. I mean I don’t know what I loved more, the perfect plunging neckline, fishtail(ish) finish or that incredible cape. She looked head to foot amazing, BEST DRESSED by a mile!
OK unfortunately with the best dressed must come the WORST DRESSED. That award goes to…Liza Minnelli. Oh…my…days…I literally could not believe my eyes when I saw her choice. It was so bad that it was actually quite brilliant. The satiny blue suit ensemble, with those flat black shoes and the best bit…the blue streak in her hair. I absolutely love her!!
What about you guys…what were your fave looks of the night? Tomorrow I’ll be posting my favourite hair and makeup looks of the night so if you haven’t already please subscribe on here, twitter or bloglovin for regular updates.
