Ok guys I’m not going to lie, tonight’s red carpet really left me feeling kind of…hmmmmm! A bit like when I watched Gravity earlier today actually! The best dressed choices were quite slim pickings if I’m honest, I’m not sure what was going on but I need the Oscar’s to hurry up and arrive and give me my much needed fix of red carpet couture!
So I’m going to get straight into it. Lets start with…
The not so good
I was kind of liking Imogen Poots ‘Givenchy’ cut out dress until I saw the hip cut outs and black strappy sandals. It all kind of went downhill from here for me. Love the hair and makeup though!
When I initially saw Maggie Gylenhaal’s ‘Lanvin’ frock I was very undecided as to how I felt about it. After going back and forth…a lot I finally decided all that embellishment is just too much for me. With that beautiful pixie cut a more toned down option would have been more elegant.
Laura Carmichael in Erdem…Laura what were you thinking? Really you’re at the BAFTA’s, put a full length gown on!
Sai Bennet, the hair, makeup and accessories are just beautiful but that dress…nooooo!
The Awful
Fearne Cotton in Jimmy Choo. What rhymes with Choo? That’s right…EW! How can you go from the beautiful NTA ensemble to this? It has aged her by about 20 years!
Now Edith Bowman’s dress is not actually that bad but I am totally put of by the hair, what in the what? Edith you look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge my lovely!
Lilly Allen in Vivienne Westwood. Oh Lily I hate to say this because I love you so and I know your stylist probably told you colour blocking was in, but not like this. On the plus side her makeup looks stunning and considering she’s had two children she looks incredible.
Lea Seydoux. Hair, makeup, manicure and accessory wise the absolute best of the night. Her curvy figure is just incredible, it’s just a shame that skirt was transparent or she may have been on the best dressed list!
The Fabulous
Alicia Vikander in CHANEL. Initially I was not keen on Alicia’s outfit but the more I look at it the more I love it. It’s hard to carry off high fashion on the red carpet but she does it amazingly!
Olga Kurylenko. How incredible does Olga look in this mermaid(ish) dress? Total dress envy going on over here.
Angelina Jolie in Saint Lauren. Madonna I hope you’re looking at this, because this is how you should’ve turned up to the Grammy’s.
Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen. Absolutely gorgeous…apart from that necklace. Please take it off!
Hofit Golan…I mean…head to foot…flawless…
Gillian Anderson in vintage Balmain. This is where colour blocking started people…take note on how to do it right!
Best Dressed
OK so first up is the beautiful Helen Mirren. Until I saw her accept her award at the end of the ceremony I did not realise just how stunning this dress is and how beautiful she looks…please let me age like her!
Next on my list of best dressed is Amy Adams. Living up to the amazingness that was her American Hustle wardrobe, she put an elegant spin on things by opting for Victoria Beckham. How incredible did she look?!
Finally my absolute fave of the evening was none other than Lupita Nyong’o in Dior Couture. Holy mother of mercy how fricking fabulous does she look?! I mean she never, ever gets it wrong. I cannot wait to see what she wears for the Oscars. Hands down no.1 red carpet star of 2014!
That’s it for this red carpet edit, what were your thoughts? Did you agree or disagree with me? Do you think I left anyone out?
