OK so a couple of posts ago I was discussing my Slimming World experience. As I said previously I’ve lost almost 4 stone and have been hovering above my target weight for a while. Well until Christmas came along and I made it my mission to eat anything and everything and put on 6lbs, oops!
Now that being said I still have lost a pretty good amount of weight, buuuut…I have been left with a bit of jiggle as a consequence. Now this isn’t too appalling but it’s definitely not gonna be a good look when I go to Abu Dhabi and Thailand in May. I need to get beach ready, ASAP!
Soooooo my new years resolution is to get off my lazy ass and do a bit of exercise! Now I really struggle to get in a good exercise routine, although I know it’s really good for me and I need to do it I struggle to motivate myself to get going. Once I do however I actually…dare I say it…enjoy it!
It has taken me years and umpteen unused gym memberships to realise that there is not much exercise I like. Too many times I have bought myself all the equipment I need to do a certain exercise only to lose interest after a week. I have come to the realisation I will never be a marathon runner, a gym queen or channeling my inner Miranda Kerr doing contortionist like yoga moves on the beach!
I love to dance and find this to be an amazing way to burn the calories. Unfortunately due to my shift work I can’t commit to a regular class so tend to do exercise videos that incorporate dancing. Now I have to say I have bought so many exercise DVD’s in my time it’s a bit cray. Some are absolute pants…I may as well walk up and down the stairs a couple of times instead of bothering with them.
I have however bought some incredible DVD’s that really put me through my paces and have me jumping for joy at the amount of calories I’ve burnt. So here is a run down of what I’ve tried…take a peek, you never know it might save you a gym membership!
Now then the three pictured above are the worst in my collection. Carmen Electra’s is absolutely useless. Although an aerobic striptease is a fun concept it is basically just gyrating over a chair looking like a fool and burning next to no calories! The Only Way is Essexercise is not too bad but it definitely doesn’t put you through your paces and the calories burnt aren’t that high. Finally Vicky Binns Dance it Off, what can I say? Oh dear I’m so sorry Vicky but this is absolutely awful!
Davina McCall and Billy Blanks both have an array of fantastic work out DVD’s. Both are fun and fast paced. You will be put through your paces with both these options. Not only will you burn a high amount of calories but you’ll feel the burn and reap the results! Give them a try you wont be sorry.
OK it’s all in the title of these DVD’s. Jillian Michaels is one hard core trainer, she makes you work and if you stick to it you will definitely see results…and have trouble walking up the stairs the next day!
Loads of Fun
If you haven’t heard of Zumba by now…well that’s quite impressive. This danced based DVD experience has something for all abilities. You will start of with a tutorial and work yourself up through the advanced stages. If like me you love dancing then you will most definitely enjoy this.

So these are my three fave exercise DVD’s of all time. Deanne Berry choreographed two Ministry of Sound exercise DVD’s back in the naughties. Th first one was Pump it Up – Dance Yourself Fit. Based around the music video for Eric Prydz’ Call on me. You must remember the video…Deanne Berry leeds a fitness class full of beautiful women clad in sexy 80’s gym gear, much to the joy of the only lucky guy in the class. I have been doing this DVD since 2004, 10 years this year…pretty scary right?! I have to say that I have never grown bored of this DVD. Not only is Deanne’s choreography amazing but she also guides you through it amazingly making it really easy to follow. After doing this DVD a few times you will feel the results, especially in your legs and booty.
Pump it Up – Burn it, Lose it. Another Ministry of Sound dance based DVD choreographed by Deanne Berry. This is actually my all time fave exercise DVD. A mixture of boxercise and squats set to a pretty good sound, track this DVD really targets every problem area…especially the old bingo wings! Two days after doing this DVD I can barely sit down and again my legs and booty are noticeably more toned.
Finally we have Josie Gibson’s 30 second slim. This is not your typical token celeb slim down DVD. It is pretty hard core so don’t be decieved by Josie’s statement “it’s great if you’re a bit lazy like me ‘cos the hard bit only lasts 30 seconds at a time!” Oh please even the supposed easy bit is hard Josie! I’m not complaining though because it’s a fantastic DVD and it really works and gets you into shape. Come on Josie didn’t get that amazing body by sitting back and chillin. You need to go hard or go home here!
So guys that’s my round up of what I’ve tried. I have decided not to waste my money on gym memberships anymore because I much prefer exercising at home and have had much more success. So here goes nothing…I am going to try and stick to exercising a least twice a week and lets see if I can get myself a Beyoncé booty?!
PEACE & LOVE
