Vintage Style Crush – Marilyn Monroe

Whilst I’ve been stuck on my sofa this past week I finally got round to watching My Week With Marilyn, what an amazing  job Michelle Williams does, that Golden Globe and Oscar nomination was well earned.

For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. I have so many pictures and books of her around my house, it’s actually a bit ridic! I even have a six foot screen in the dinning room which my other half just loves, joke, as if! A few people over the years have bought me Marilyn pictures, I think they thought I needed a change. Not to be ungrateful but I never put any of them up. You see all the images of Marilyn I was used to seeing were the cliché pop art, pouty lip, wind up the skirt type print, not for me I’m afraid, sorry Mr Wahol.

However whilst in TK Maxx a few years ago I came across some stunning prints of Ms Monroe. They were taken back in 1955 by Ed Feingersh. He followed Marilyn around New York for 4 days and managed to capture some of the most amazing pictures I have ever seen of the icon. I snapped two up and I’m sure you have all probably seen them in my many outfit idea pictures.

Whilst watching the film I started looking up images of Marilyn from 1956, the year the film was set, to see how Michelle Williams compared. I came across this amazing picture, I can’t believe I’ve never seen it before.

What a perfect and current outfit. Marilyn looks like she has stepped right out of Victoria Beckham’s design studio after being made up by Mario Dedivanovic. I wish I could borrow that outfit for a day.

In honour of this amazing ensemble I have made Ms Monroe my current vintage style crush, move over Audrey you have competition.
